Marianne Fassler has been commissioned to work with Robyn Orlin on a conceptual, contemporary dance piece called: beauty remained for just a moment then returned gently to her starting position….This piece will premiere in Lyons, France on September 22nd 2012. Thereafter it will tour Europe for 6 weeks before returning to South Africa for a short run at the Dance Factory .
The work is set in downtown Joburg and Robyn is using dancers from Sylvia Gasser’s company ,Moving into Dance, in Newtown, Johannesburg.
Robyn Orlin is a much awarded Choreographer and dancer born in South Africa. She lives in Berlin with her film maker husband and works mainly in France and South Africa. This collaboration with Marianne has been a long time coming, and worth the wait.
The BEAUTY piece has been work shopped over many months and is set in the re-cycle ‘dumps’ of the city. The garments are being constructed out of elements of product found on these dumps. We are working with bottle tops, plastic containers, shopping bags, sweetie and chip papers and anything and everything that most people discard. We have relished the opportunity to work more conceptually and have really gone all out to apply our unique South African aesthetic and crafting techniques to the costumes. We have also had a lot of fun, which will hopefully be reflected in the work.
Marianne and Lezanne Viviers, her assistant will travel to Lyons for the final rehearsals and opening night on September 22nd. We will definitely be keeping you up to date and posting images once the work has had its premiere.
Hope to see you all in November at The Dance Factory!
